Amigo Impex is a manufacturer, supplier, stockist and exporter of Stainless Steel 17-4 PH forgings, operating from Mumbai for over a decade. 17-4 PH is a martensitic precipitation-hardening stainless steel, registered as UNS S17400 and AISI Type 630. Its name records the chemistry: close to 17% chromium and 4% nickel, with a copper addition that hardens the steel during ageing. We forge and supply the grade to ASTM A705 / ASME SA-705, either solution-annealed in Condition A or age-hardened to any condition from H900 through H1150. At H900, the material reaches a minimum tensile strength of 1310 MPa, and each step up the ageing ladder trades strength for toughness in defined increments.

Stainless Steel 17-4 PH Forging Manufacturer and Supplier in India

That property range puts forged 17-4 PH into valve trim, pump shafts, aerospace structural fittings and oilfield hardware, with the exact condition chosen against the duty of the finished component. Every consignment is despatched with test documentation covering chemistry and mechanical properties. Cutting, machining, threading, fabrication, testing and packing are carried out in-house, so a forging can be delivered as-forged, rough machined or finished to drawing.

Amigo Impex holds AS 9120B, PED, ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certifications and exports to the USA, the Gulf, Europe and Asia. Send a drawing with the required conditions, and we'll confirm feasibility, weight and price.

17-4 PH Forging Chemical Composition

Copper drives the hardening response in this grade: during ageing, the 3.00-5.00% copper precipitates within the martensite and lifts strength, while niobium plus tantalum ties up carbon. Limits below follow ASME SA-705 for UNS S17400.

17-4 PH Forging Mechanical Properties

17-4 PH forgings combine high strength with corrosion resistance comparable to Type 304 in most media; better than any standard hardenable stainless steel, though it contains no molybdenum and so does not match Type 316 in chloride service. Below are the minimum mechanical property specifications across various heat-treated ageing conditions.

Equivalent Grades of 17-4 PH Forging

Overseas drawings identify this grade through national designations that describe similar chemistry. SUS F 630 in JIS G 3214 (Stainless steel forgings for pressure vessels) is the Japanese forging designation for this grade, but note that JIS G 3214 recognises it only in the H1075, H1100 and H1150 conditions. For H900, H925 or H1025 forgings, order to ASTM A705 / ASME SA‑705.

Shipping and Packaging of 17-4 PH Forgings

Forgings travel in boxes, crates or bundles, with export-grade packing selected to match the consignment, route and handling at destination. Despatch runs from Mumbai to the USA, the Gulf, Europe and Asia. Stock items are despatched within 1 to 2 working days; forgings made to drawing are quoted with a lead time confirmed at the time of order. A mill test certificate accompanies each order, issued from the original mill or from our own laboratory testing. Third-party inspection is supported on request.

Testing and Certifications of 17 4 Forging

Our laboratory verifies chemistry by optical emission spectrometry and runs tensile, yield, elongation and hardness checks to ASTM A370 on every heat. Hardness readings confirm the ageing condition, since H900 must reach 40 HRC minimum while H1150 sits at 28 HRC. Ultrasonic examination, PMI and impact testing follow the drawing when a customer calls for them. Nominated inspection agencies witness testing at our Mumbai works. Amigo Impex holds AS 9120B, PED approvals, ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certifications.

17-4 PH Forging Price

The price for Stainless Steel 17-4 PH forgings typically ranges from ₹200 to ₹280 per kg (US$ 2.10–$2.95/kg), depending on factors such as forged weight, section size, shape complexity, heat-treatment condition, machining allowance, testing requirements, and order quantity. Because every forging is produced against a drawing, quotations are issued per kilogram in INR and USD for the finished part.

FAQs

17-4 PH is soaked at 1177–1204 °C before forging, with heating time set by section thickness (about half an hour per inch, plus a one‑hour hold on sections over 19 mm). Forging is finished above 1010 °C. After forging, the part is cooled to 32 °C to refine the grain, then re-solution treated at 1024–1052 °C and air-cooled before age hardening.

H900 is the condition to specify for peak strength, while H1025 through H1150 give progressively more toughness at lower strength. Condition A suits forgings that are machined first and age-hardened afterwards. H900 gives peak strength but is the least resistant condition to chloride stress corrosion cracking, and the mill data recommends ageing at 552 °C (H1025) or higher wherever chlorides are present. For sour service, 17-4 PH is accepted only in the double‑aged H1150‑D or H1150‑M condition, at 33 HRC maximum on the finished part, with sustained stress not exceeding 50% of SMYS or 380 MPa.

Yes, 17/4 PH stainless steel can be machined after age hardening, although most components are rough machined in Condition A and finished after ageing to limit tool wear.

17-4 PH forgings are used for valve trim, pump shafts, aerospace structural fittings, oilfield hardware and food-processing machine components.

The equivalent grades for 17-4 PH forgings are UNS S17400, AISI 630, EN 1.4542 (X5CrNiCuNb16-4), JIS SUS 630 and GB 05Cr17Ni4Cu4Nb.

Grade 630 forgings are ordered from Amigo Impex by sending the drawing, heat-treatment conditions, quantity and testing requirements to our Mumbai sales office for a per-kilogram quotation.
