Amigo Impex, based in Mumbai, India, has manufactured, stocked and exported Monel fasteners in India since 2013. Bar cutting, thread production, machining, testing and packing are carried out in-house, allowing components for the same bolting assembly to be supplied with documentation linked to the applicable material heat.
Monel fasteners are nickel-copper alloy fasteners machined from bar. Monel 400 bar is supplied to ASTM B164 / ASME SB-164, and Monel K500 bar is supplied to ASTM B865. Their corrosion resistance is provided primarily by the nickel-copper alloy matrix, which offers resistance to seawater, brines, alkalis and hydrofluoric acid. The range includes Monel 400, which contains a minimum of 63% nickel and 28 to 34% copper, and Monel K500, which contains aluminium and titanium and can be age-hardened for higher-strength applications.
Certified sizes run from 1/4 in to 1-1/2 in under ASTM F468 for bolts, hex cap screws and studs and ASTM F467 for nuts, and from M6 to M36 under the metric companion standards ASTM F468M and ASTM F467M. Anything outside that band, whether M3 or M56, gets machined to drawing against the bar specification instead. The range covers ten fastener types, including hex bolts, nuts, studs, threaded rods, screws, Monel washers, U-bolts, anchor bolts and eye bolts. As one of the established Monel fasteners suppliers, Amigo Impex delivers across pan-India from Mumbai, with export consignments supplied to the USA, Gulf, Europe and Asia. Each order is supplied with the applicable material test documentation. Ready stock of approximately 60 to 70 tonnes supports standard requirements, while pricing is quoted per kilogram according to grade, dimensions, quantity and prevailing nickel and copper costs.
The specification for a Monel fastener order is determined by the grade, applicable product standard, dimensions, thread system and required condition. The table below summarises the standard supply range.
A Monel fastener order can involve separate standards for the finished fastener, the bar stock used for machining and the dimensions of the finished component. The applicable standards should therefore be specified according to the product and drawing requirements.
| Standard | Scope |
|---|---|
| ASTM F468 | Nonferrous bolts, hex cap screws, socket head cap screws and studs |
| ASTM F467 | Nonferrous nuts |
| ASTM B164 / ASME SB164 | Nickel-copper alloy rod, bar and wire (UNS N04400, N04405) used as Monel 400 fastener stock |
| ASTM B865 | Precipitation-hardening nickel-copper-aluminium alloy (UNS N05500) bar, rod and wire used as Monel K500 fastener stock |
| MIL-S-1222H | Studs and bolting for applicable naval and defence procurement |
| ASME B18.2.1 / B18.2.2 | Inch-series bolt and nut dimensions |
| DIN 931 / 933 / 934 | Metric hex bolt and nut dimensions |
| IS 1364 | Hex fastener dimensions for applicable Indian drawings |
Amigo Impex supplies two Monel fastener grades: Monel 400 and Monel K500. Both are nickel-copper alloys, but their mechanical properties and heat-treatment responses differ, making them suitable for different bolting requirements.
Monel 400 fasteners, identified as UNS N04400 and W.Nr. 2.4360, provide corrosion resistance in seawater, alkalis, hydrofluoric acid and other demanding environments. The alloy is strengthened primarily through cold working rather than age hardening.
Monel K500 fasteners, identified as UNS N05500 and W.Nr. 2.4375, contain aluminium and titanium and can be age hardened to achieve higher mechanical strength than Monel 400. This makes the grade suitable for applications where higher preload or strength is required.
Size selection follows the grade, fastener type and thread configuration on the drawing. ASTM F468 and ASTM F467 set the certified inch band, and ASTM F468M and ASTM F467M set the certified metric band. Anything beyond those bands comes from bar to drawing, carrying material certification without product certification.
| Parameter | Range |
|---|---|
| Bolts and Hex Cap Screws | 1/4 in to 1-1/2 in certified to ASTM F468; M6 to M36 certified to ASTM F468M |

ASTM F468 covers applicable nonferrous bolts, hex cap screws, socket head cap screws and studs, while ASTM F467 covers Monel nuts and other applicable nonferrous nuts. Bar stock is supplied to ASTM B164 / ASME SB-164 for Monel 400 and to ASTM B865 for Monel K500.
Monel 400 is primarily selected for corrosion resistance and general industrial service, while Monel K500 is age-hardenable and provides higher mechanical strength. Monel K500 is therefore considered where greater preload or strength is required.
Monel 400 can exhibit some magnetic response depending on material condition and temperature. Where specific magnetic-performance requirements apply, the actual material condition and application should be considered when selecting the grade.
Monel fasteners are selected for certain seawater applications because their nickel-copper composition provides strong resistance to seawater corrosion. Stainless steel may remain suitable for less severe conditions, so the choice should be based on seawater temperature, velocity, exposure and other service conditions.
Certified sizes run from 1/4 in to 1-1/2 in under ASTM F468 for bolts, hex cap screws and studs and under ASTM F467 for nuts. Metric sizes from M6 to M36 are certified under the metric companion standards ASTM F468M and ASTM F467M. Sizes outside those bands are machined to drawing from ASTM B164 or ASTM B865 bar and supplied with material certification rather than product certification. The one exception is socket head cap screws, which ASTM F468 certifies in inch sizes from size 0 (0.060 in) to 1-1/2 in.
