The bars and rods made of using 254 SMO are known as ASTM A479 rods. They are also available as UNS S31254 rod and bar. SMO 254 is a stainless steel grade of austenitic type. This steel grade is known for using aggressive chloride and seawater media. Therefore, the steel grade is made corrosion resistant and that to be at an extreme level. It is because the sweater media and chloride media leads to cracking of bars due to stress corrosion. 6 Moly S31254/SMO 254 BARS & RODS are highly resistant to these conditions and thus useful for working in these media. The standard grade of steel has 20.5 percent of chromium, nickel in 17.5 to 18.5 percent, and molybdenum in 6 to 6.5 percent. It also has nitrogen in some quantity like 0.18 to 0.22 percent. This makes the steel a super steel grade. It thus has a great combination of impact toughness and corrosion-resistant ability. It has almost double the strength than steel of 300 series. It can also withstand the highest possible temperature in the industries under volatile conditions.
