Amigo Impex is a cupro-nickel bars & rods manufacturer and supplier in Mumbai, India, and has held copper-nickel bar stock since 2013. Our rod and bar range conforms to ASTM B151 / ASME SB-151 and includes two grades, such as C70600 (90/10 Cu-Ni) and C71500 (70/30). Forged bar and billet are supplied to the applicable forging and semi-finished product specifications, confirmed at the order stage. Iron is added to improve resistance to impingement and erosion corrosion in flowing seawater, and manganese acts as a deoxidiser and aids weldability. Nickel content drives the grade decision. C70600 runs 9.0 to 11.0% nickel and covers the bulk of seawater and brackish-water work, while C71500 runs 29.0 to 33.0% nickel and tolerates higher flow velocities. Resistance to seawater corrosion and to biofouling is what puts the alloy on a drawing.
Sections for cupro nickel bar stock run 6 mm to 120 mm as rolled and drawn round bar, 10 mm to 200 mm as square bar, and up to 500 mm as forged bar, in round, square, hex, flat and hollow profiles. In black or bright finish, with threaded rods and forged bars produced to order. Cutting, machining, threading and fabrication all run in-house. Machine shops turn our copper nickel bars & rods into pump shafts, valve stems, fastener blanks and heat exchanger hardware. Stock levels stand at roughly 60 to 70 tonnes, so standard sections leave in 1 to 2 days, and made-to-order material takes about 30 days. A mill test certificate travels with every consignment. Our company holds AS 9120B, PED, ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certifications.
An enquiry closes faster once standard, grade, section, band, finish and paperwork are settled. The table below fixes that supply envelope across both Cu-Ni bars and rod grades, from section band through to despatch.
ASTM B151 / B151M is the Standard Specification for Copper-Nickel-Zinc Alloy (Nickel Silver) and Copper-Nickel Rod and Bar, adopted by ASME as SB-151 / SB-151M. It covers ten copper alloys; C70600 and C71500 are the two copper-nickel grades we supply.
| Standard | Scope | Applies to Bar and Rod |
|---|---|---|
| ASTM B151 / B151M | Copper-nickel-zinc (nickel silver) and copper-nickel rod and bar | Yes, the governing specification |
| ASME SB-151 | Code adoption of ASTM B151 | Yes, quoted alongside ASTM |
Two grades cover the range, separated by nickel content. Each sits inside ASTM B151, shares a copper remainder with manganese, zinc and lead limits, and differs in the seawater velocity it will take in service.
C70600 bar holds 9.0 to 11.0% nickel with 1.0 to 1.8% iron, copper making up the remainder. General seawater and brackish-water components account for most of its use.
Nickel rises to 29.0 to 33.0% in C71500 bar, and iron sits lower at 0.40 to 1.0%. The heavier alloy content buys velocity tolerance and warmer service at a higher rate per kilogram.
Section size sets machining time and material yield, so diameter leads this table of cupro nickel round bar sizes. Round bar spans the widest band, and hex sections are quoted against the across-flats dimension.
| Section | Size Band |
|---|---|
| Round Bar | 6 mm to 120 mm diameter |
| Square Bar | 10 mm to 200 mm |
| Hex Bar | Across-flats sizes quoted on request |
| Flat and Rectangular Bar | Width and thickness to drawing |
| Length | 100 mm to 3,660 mm, cut to length as per client specification |
Every figure in this cupro nickel round bar chart is theoretical, worked at 8.94 g/cm³, the density shared by both grades. For a diameter outside the chart, square the millimetre figure and multiply by 0.00702.
| Diameter | Weight per Metre, Theoretical |
|---|---|
| 10 mm | 0.70 kg |
| 25 mm | 4.39 kg |
| 50 mm | 17.55 kg |
| 80 mm | 44.94 kg |
| 100 mm | 70.21 kg |
| 120 mm | 101.11 kg |
Seven solid configurations make up the cupro nickel bar and rod range we stock or produce to order. Every one of them is machining or forging stock. Hex and square sections shorten setup time on fastener and valve stem work.

ASTM B151 / B151M covers copper-nickel rod and bar, and ASME adopts the same document as SB-151. ASTM B111 is a condenser tube and ferrule specification, so it doesn't apply to bar.
Specify 90/10 (C70600) for standard seawater duty and brackish-water components, and 70/30 (C71500) where flow velocity or service temperature runs higher. Nickel is the cost driver, so 70/30 prices are above 90/10.
Cupro nickel round bars run 6 mm to 120 mm in diameter. Square sections reach 200 mm, and forged bar is available up to 500 mm. Lengths cover 100 mm to 3,660 mm.
No. Cupro nickel is copper-dominant with nickel as the addition, while Monel inverts that ratio and runs on a nickel base. The two aren't equivalent and must never be substituted against a drawing callout.
Yes, cupro nickel bars machine and weld well. They harden by cold working rather than heat treatment, and annealing after cold work restores ductility before any further forming.
Yes. We saw cupro nickel rods to specified lengths at the Mumbai works and cut pieces despatch beside standard mill lengths.
Seawater and brackish-water duty carries machined cupronickel bar and rod stock into these 8 industries.
