The duplex stainless steel falls under the family of the stainless steels that have a structure of equal proportions of 50-50 quantity of ferrite and austenite. They get all of their physical properties through an avid combination of the grades of the ferrite and austenite.
Their family is of three categories, the first one is the Lean Duplex SS which is identified for having a lower content of nickel and no amount of molybdenum at all. They are available in four grades that are 2101, 2102, 2202, and 2304. The next one in the list is the Duplex SS which has a higher content of both the nickel and the molybdenum. They are present in three grades which are 2205, 2003, and 2404. The Third and the last variant is the hyper Duplex which has got a presence of higher amounts of N, Mo, Ni, and Cr and is available in only one grade which is 2707.
Their general corrosion property is highly similar to that of the other austenitic alloys. Moreover, the general corrosion of these pipe firings varies greatly with all the changes that happen within the concentration, temperature, PH, and impurities.
Moreover, their greatest strength lies within the chloride stress corrosion cracking and it is like the biggest advantage of using these pipe fittings. They have extremely improved resistance against the CSCC which is obviously higher than that of the other ranges of the austenitic grades. Moreover, their resistance from the stress corrosion cracking is highly noteworthy as well. They also have a large number of mechanical properties as well such as that they have two times the yield strength as that of the other austenitic grades due to which they are used widely by the equipment designers to make vessels using a thinner kind of gauge material.
