Stainless steel pipes and tubes are corrosion-resistant tubulars built on a minimum of 10.5% chromium, which forms a self-repairing passive film. Nickel holds the austenitic structure stable, and molybdenum in the 316 family sharpens resistance to chloride pitting. Pipe is manufactured to ASTM A312 / ASME SA-312, with electric fusion-welded pipe to ASTM A358 / ASME SA-358, while tube ships against dedicated ASTM tube specifications. 11 grades make up the supplied range: the austenitic set of 304, 304L, 310, 316 & 316L, 317 & 317L, 321, 347 and 904L, plus the precipitation hardening trio of 15-5 PH, 17-4 PH and PH 13-8 Mo. Pipe spans 1/8" to 24" NB, with Schedules 10S, 40S and 80S available up to 12" NB and Schedule 10S from 14" to 24" NB. Weights and pressure ratings follow ASME rules.

The following grades of SS tubes and pipes span two metallurgical families, austenitic and precipitation-hardening, each grade answering a different corrosion and strength duty.
SS 304 pipe, UNS S30400, handles general corrosion duty in water, food and atmospheric service; it's the default austenitic choice.
The low-carbon 304L variant, UNS S30403, resists sensitisation at weld seams; fabricated spools need no post-weld annealing.
SS 310 tube, UNS S31000, carries 25% chromium with 20% nickel for furnace, radiant tube and flue gas duty, with carbon up to 0.25% lifting creep strength at sustained temperature; it is supplied as mechanical tubing rather than as pressure pipe to ASTM A312.
Molybdenum at 2 to 3% separates 316 and 316L pipe, UNS S31600 and S31603, from 304 in chloride and marine exposure.
A heavier molybdenum load of 3 to 4% takes 317 and 317L tubes past 316L in scrubbers and aggressive chloride streams.
SS 321 pipe, UNS S32100, is titanium stabilised for cyclic service between 425°C and 815°C, where unstabilised grades sensitise.
Grade 347, UNS S34700, stabilises with niobium instead, keeping weld zones sound through thermal cycling in refinery circuits.
SS 904L pipe, UNS N08904, is the super austenitic option: high nickel plus copper defends against sulphuric and phosphoric acid.
15-5 PH tubulars, UNS S15500, sit in the martensitic precipitation-hardening family, pairing high tensile strength with sound corrosion resistance.
17-4 PH material, UNS S17400, age-hardens after machining and serves pump shafts, sleeves and valve internals.
PH 13-8 Mo, UNS S13800, adds molybdenum to the precipitation hardening system for aerospace and defence hardware.
An enquiry written as nominal bore plus schedule reads as pipe; one written as outside diameter plus wall reads as tube. Both envelopes sit below.

A stainless steel pipe is sized by nominal bore and schedule; a stainless steel tube is sized by the actual outside diameter and wall thickness.
Choose 316 stainless steel pipe against chlorides, brine or coastal exposure, because its molybdenum resists pitting. The 18/8 grade 304 covers general water and food duty at a lower cost.
Stainless steel isn't used for all piping because carbon steel costs less where corrosion is mild; the alloy content pays off in corrosive media, hygiene-critical lines and high-temperature service.
