Amigo Impex is a titanium wire manufacturer, stockist, supplier and exporter based in Mumbai, India, with experience in industrial metals since 2013, supplying titanium wire for industrial and application-specific requirements. Titanium wire is supplied to ASTM B863, with the standard range covering commercially pure Grade 2 and Grade 5 titanium (Ti-6Al-4V). ASTM B863 defines wire as rounds, flats or special shapes from 0.020 in. (0.5 mm) to 0.250 in. (6.4 mm) in thickness or major dimension, so diameters finer than 0.5 mm fall outside the specification and are supplied to agreed drawing requirements or to the applicable aerospace specification.

Titanium develops a stable oxide layer that provides strong resistance to corrosion in seawater, chloride-containing environments and many oxidising media. Its density is roughly 55 to 60 per cent that of steel, so titanium wire weighs considerably less than steel wire of the same diameter and gives a higher strength-to-weight ratio than annealed stainless steel wire. High-tensile drawn spring steel can exceed titanium on strength-to-weight alone, so titanium is normally selected where low weight and corrosion resistance are required together. Grade selection depends on whether corrosion resistance, formability or mechanical strength is the primary requirement.

Titanium Wires Manufacturer & Supplier in India

The range includes welding filler, spring, spooled, coil, straight-length and bright wire in diameters from 0.05 mm to 5.0 mm. Wire can be supplied in annealed or hard-drawn condition, depending on the required application and specification. Welding filler wire can also be supplied to AWS A5.16 classifications ERTi-2 and ERTi-5, with aerospace requirements covered by the applicable AMS specifications.

Ready stock in Mumbai is approximately 60 to 70 tonnes across the range. Stock items can generally be dispatched within 1 to 2 days, while made-to-order diameters require around 30 days. Cutting, testing and packing are carried out in-house. Each consignment is supplied with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate, with 3.2 certification available when specified. Supply covers pan-India as well as export markets in the USA, Gulf, Europe and Asia.

Applicable Standards for Titanium Wire

ASTM B863 covers titanium and titanium alloy wire as a product form. Additional standards apply where the wire is supplied as a welding consumable or against aerospace requirements.

StandardScope
ASTM B863Titanium and titanium alloy wire
AWS A5.16Titanium welding electrodes and rods, including ERTi-2 and ERTi-5
AMS 4951Commercially pure titanium welding wire for aerospace applications
AMS 4954Ti-6Al-4V welding wire for aerospace applications

Titanium Wire Grades

The standard range consists of commercially pure Grade 2 and Grade 5 titanium alloy wire, with both grades selected according to the required corrosion resistance, formability and mechanical strength. Both grades offer excellent corrosion resistance, but their mechanical properties and forming characteristics differ.

Titanium Grade 2 Wire (UNS R50400)

Titanium Grade 2 wire combines good corrosion resistance, weldability and formability. It is commonly selected for chemical-processing equipment, anodising racks, general fabrication and welding filler applications where moderate strength is sufficient.

Titanium Grade 5 Wire (Ti-6Al-4V, UNS R56400)

Commercially pure Grade 2 titanium wire offers significantly lower strength than alloyed Grade 5. Grade 5, strengthened with aluminium and vanadium, provides high strength-to-weight performance ideal for demanding aerospace components, industrial fasteners, and high-stress mechanical springs.

Types of Titanium Wire

Titanium wire is supplied in different forms according to the application, manufacturing process and required delivery format:

Shipping and Packaging of Titanium Wire

Packaging is selected according to the wire format, quantity and destination. Spooled wire is protected against moisture and contamination before being placed in cartons, while coils are secured with suitable wrapping and strapping. Straightened cut lengths can be packed in lined cases where additional protection is required.

Each package is identified with the grade, heat number, diameter and applicable specification. Custom marking can also be provided when specified in the order. Domestic consignments are dispatched across pan-India from Mumbai, while export orders are prepared for the USA, Gulf, European and Asian markets.

Titanium Wire Testing and Certification

Titanium wire lots undergo the applicable chemical, dimensional and material verification checks before packing. Positive material identification can also be performed where required. Tensile testing is carried out against the ASTM B863 Table 2 requirements for the grade supplied. Minimum tensile strength and elongation are set by grade rather than by diameter, while the yield strength requirements of Table 2 apply only to sizes of 0.125 in. (3.2 mm) and above. Table 2 covers annealed material; properties for cold worked wire are agreed between supplier and purchaser.

Third-party inspection can be arranged when specified in the purchase order. Each consignment is supplied with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate, while 3.2 certification can be provided when required. Amigo Impex operates under AS 9120B, PED, ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certifications.

Titanium Wire FAQs

Titanium wire is used for TIG welding filler, anodising racks and jigs, chemical-processing equipment, aerospace components, springs, fasteners and other applications requiring low weight and corrosion resistance. Grade 2 is generally selected where formability and corrosion resistance are the primary requirements, while Grade 5 is preferred for higher-strength applications.

Titanium wire offers a high strength-to-weight ratio. Grade 5 Ti-6Al-4V provides substantially higher strength than commercially pure Grade 2, while the actual tensile properties depend on the grade, diameter and delivered condition.

Choose Grade 2 where corrosion resistance, formability and weldability are the main requirements. Grade 5 is more appropriate where higher mechanical strength and strength-to-weight performance are required. The final selection should be based on the application and applicable material specification.

Titanium wire is available in diameters from 0.05 mm to 5.0 mm, subject to grade, condition and wire type. Sizes outside the standard supply range can be reviewed for production to order.

Yes. Grade 2 titanium wire is commonly used for anodising racks and jigs because of its corrosion resistance and suitability for repeated exposure to process solutions. The required diameter and condition depend on the rack design and operating environment.

ERTi-2 is used for commercially pure titanium welding applications, while ERTi-5 is used for Ti-6Al-4V applications under AWS A5.16. Aerospace welding requirements may additionally specify AMS 4951 or AMS 4954.
