Amigo Impex is a 17- 4 stainless steel sheet manufacturer and supplier. We have operated from Mumbai for over a decade, supplying 17-4 SS plates to the pump and valve, aerospace, process equipment and food machinery industries.
17-4 PH stainless steel sheet is a martensitic chromium-nickel-copper precipitation-hardening stainless steel, designated UNS S17400 and AISI Type 630; flat products follow ASTM A693 / ASME SA-693, with AMS 5604 for aerospace orders. The name reflects the nominal 17% chromium and 4% nickel content; the copper addition hardens the martensite during low-temperature ageing. Supply begins at solution-annealed Condition A and runs through the aged tempers H900 to H1150, where minimum tensile strength reaches up to 1310 MPa. Overseas standards list matches the regional designations. Thicknesses span 0.4 mm sheet to 90 mm plate, hot or cold rolled, in plain and polished finishes and cut-to-size types.
As a stockist, we hold ready 17-4 PH stainless steel plate from 10 mm to 78 mm and roll other sizes against order. The grade serves pump and valve internals, aerospace structures, process equipment and food machinery. Cutting, machining, fabrication, testing and packing run in-house.
Amigo Impex stands out as one of the leading 17 4 stainless steel sheet suppliers, delivering complete order solutions through export packaging, pan-India despatch, four official company certifications, and transparent per-kilogram pricing. As an AS 9120B and ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer and supplier, we provide verified MTCs to validate quality with every despatch.
The following summary table outlines all primary ordering parameters for UNS S17400 / Grade 630 sheets and plates, bringing together applicable standards, dimensions, supply conditions, and finishes for easy specification review.
Stainless steel 17-4 PH sheets and plates are manufactured to several key industry and aerospace specifications. The table below highlights the primary governing standards and their specific scopes.
| Standard | Scope |
|---|---|
| ASTM A693 | Precipitation-hardening stainless plate, sheet and strip |
| ASME SA-693 | BPVC Section II Part A adoption of ASTM A693 |
| ASTM A480 / A480M | General requirements for flat-rolled stainless products |
| AMS 5604 | Aerospace 17-4 PH sheet, strip and plate |
Chromium at 15.00-17.50% gives the grade corrosion resistance close to Type 304 in most media, while copper precipitates drive the ageing response.
| Element | Composition (%) |
|---|---|
| Carbon (C) | 0.07 max |
| Manganese (Mn) | 1.00 max |
| Phosphorus (P) | 0.040 max |
| Sulphur (S) | 0.030 max |
| Silicon (Si) | 1.00 max |
| Chromium (Cr) | 15.00 - 17.50 |
| Nickel (Ni) | 3.00 - 5.00 |
| Copper (Cu) | 3.00 - 5.00 |
| Niobium + Tantalum (Nb+Ta) | 0.15 - 0.45 |
| Iron (Fe) | Balance |
Strength minima below follow the aged conditions of ASTM A693 / ASME SA-693 and ASTM A564 for Type 630. Elongation and hardness minima differ between plate, sheet and bar and between specification revisions, so confirm the exact acceptance values against the governing standard and thickness stated on your order.
| Condition | Ageing | Tensile Strength, min MPa (ksi) | Yield Strength 0.2%, min MPa (ksi) | Elongation, min % | Hardness, HRC |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| H900 | 482°C, 1 h | 1310 (190) | 1170 (170) | 10 | 40 - 48 |
| H925 | 496°C, 4 h | 1170 (170) | 1070 (155) | 10 | 38 - 47 |
| H1025 | 552°C, 4 h | 1070 (155) | 1000 (145) | 12 | 33 - 42 |
| H1075 | 579°C, 4 h | 1000 (145) | 860 (125) | 13 | 29 - 38 |
| H1100 | 593°C, 4 h | 965 (140) | 790 (115) | 14 | 29 - 38 |
| H1150 | 621°C, 4 h | 930 (135) | 725 (105) | 16 | 26 - 36 |
Condition A sets no minimum strength, but A693 does cap it: tensile 1275 MPa (185 ksi) max, yield 1105 MPa (160 ksi) max, elongation 3 % min, and hardness 38 HRC / 363 HBW max. That soft, capped state is what lets forming and machining be done before ageing. Sheet under 4.76 mm keeps the same strength minima at 5% elongation, 8% at H1150. Hardness ranges for the sheet band differ slightly from the plate values in the table above. Overageing trades strength for improved resistance to stress corrosion cracking, and the martensitic structure stays magnetic in every supply state. 3 supply types cover the 17-4 stainless steel sheet and plate range, each held in Mumbai stock or rolled against a confirmed order.
As leading 17 4 stainless steel sheet suppliers, we ensure polished sheets receive paper interleaving before entering wooden cases, while plates travel on seaworthy pallets with edge protection. Deliveries run pan-India; exports to the USA, the Gulf, Europe and Asia. Urgent ex-stock despatches leave within 1 to 2 days, and made-to-order material ships in around 30 days.
A Material Test Certificate accompanies every consignment, from the originating mill or our in-house laboratory. Destructive and non-destructive testing, plus third-party inspection, are arranged on request. Amigo Impex is certified to AS 9120B, PED, ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018.
17-4 PH sheet and plate are priced at ₹380 to ₹760+ INR per kilogram (approximately $4.00 to $8.00+ USD per kilogram), in INR for domestic and USD for export orders. Thickness, plate size, supply condition, quantity, finish and cutting scope set the rate; ageing or AMS 5604 certification costs more than Condition A material. Rates are confirmed per enquiry.

H900 gives the highest strength, H1025 and H1075 balance strength with toughness, and H1150 suits parts at risk of stress corrosion cracking. Condition A fits orders formed or machined before ageing.
17-4 PH is used in marine atmospheres, but mill data notes it will gradually develop light overall rusting and pitting in seacoast air in every heat-treated condition, so a coating is normal for exposed surfaces.
Yes, 17-4 PH plate welds by standard methods (GTAW, SMAW, GMAW, PAW) without preheating using AWS E630/ER630 filler. Post-weld heat treatment is needed to restore properties. Plate welded in Condition A can be aged directly to the required H condition; no solution anneal is needed. Plate welded in an already-aged condition should be solution-treated at 1040 ± 15 °C and then re-aged. Where the customer accepts it, a straight re-age of aged material is sometimes used, but this must be agreed on the order.
Eight industries specify 17 4 PH stainless steel plates and sheets where strength and corrosion resistance meet.
